Industry Pioneers: John Wornock & Charles Geschke: Adobe Systems, Inc.

After forming Adobe in the early 80’s, Geschke and Wornock decided to focus on developing specialized printing software called the Adobe PostScript page description language. This was the first software that allowed users to print pages including text, digitalized photos, and line art. After realizing that the best way to make Adobe an industry standard was to make the PostScript page description public domain, Adobe became wildly successful. Now Adobe includes programs like Photoshop, Acrobat, and Creative Cloud. As Geschke said, “”Our only real cleverness was in the perception of what was happening, and in being quick enough on our feet to take advantage of if.”
