We built a web-based system that allowed users to scan a QR code displayed on the vending machine. Instantly, their phone became a controller—no downloads or installations. This created a low-friction entry point and ensured high participation rates.
Using their mobile device, players navigated a custom-designed avatar in a beach-themed game projected on the vending machine’s large front-facing screen. Players jumped over obstacles and collected virtual Coronas to accumulate points. Real-time responsiveness between mobile input and on-screen gameplay created a console-like experience using only a smartphone and a vending machine.
